Are you a tax filer? If yes, then you’re in the right place. You need to keep track of the tax you filed for the previous year. Checking the CNIC number (Computerized National Identity Card number) associated with a mobile number can be useful for various purposes, such as verifying ownership or conducting identity checks. In Pakistan, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) provides a service to check the CNIC number linked to a mobile number. This service helps ensure the authenticity of mobile users and prevent misuse of mobile services.

Checking CNIC Number with Mobile Number via PTA Website

To check the CNIC number (Computerized National Identity Card number) associated with a mobile number, you can follow these steps:

View Results: If the mobile number is registered in Pakistan and linked to a CNIC, the PTA system will display the CNIC number associated with that mobile number.

  • Visit the PTA Website: Go to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) website.
  • Access the PTA SIM Information System: Navigate to the PTA SIM Information System section on the website.
  • Enter Mobile Number: Enter the mobile number for which you want to check the CNIC number.
  • Enter CAPTCHA: Enter the CAPTCHA code as displayed on the screen for verification purposes.
  • Submit Request: Click on the “Submit” or “Check” button to submit your request.
  • View Results: If the mobile number is registered in Pakistan and linked to a CNIC, the PTA system will display the CNIC number associated with that mobile number.

How to Retrieve Your CNIC Number Using SMS?

CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card) number via SMS is a straightforward process. Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Confirm Eligibility

Ensure your mobile number is registered under your name and linked to your CNIC. This step is crucial as the service is designed to provide CNIC information only to the number that is legally associated with the CNIC.

Step 2: Utilize the SMS Service

In Pakistan, one of the most common methods to check your CNIC number is through an SMS service provided by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). Here’s how you can use it:

  • Send an SMS: Type a specific code or your own CNIC number (if checking for linkage and verification) and send it to a designated number provided by NADRA or your telecom service provider. (Typically, this code or number can be found on NADRA’s or the telecom company’s website or by calling their customer service.)

Step 3: Receive Your CNIC Number

After sending the SMS, you will receive a message in response that includes your CNIC number linked to the mobile number you used. The response time may vary depending on the network traffic and system availability.

Step 4: Verify the Information

Once you receive your CNIC number, it’s important to verify that the details are accurate. If there are any discrepancies, you may need to contact NADRA for rectification or further clarification.

The Sindh government has introduced new motor vehicle tax rates under the Sindh Finance Act, 2024. These rates, effective from July 1, 2024, aim to standardize taxes for both imported and locally manufactured vehicles. This move reflects the government’s goal to balance revenue collection while supporting local automotive industries.

Key Updates on Tax Rates

Imported Vehicles:

  1. Engine Capacity 3000cc and Above: Owners of imported motor cars and jeeps with an engine capacity of 3000cc and above will now be required to pay a tax of Rs 450,000 at the time of registration.
  2. Engine Capacity 2000cc to 2999cc: For vehicles with an engine capacity ranging between 2000cc and 2999cc, the tax rate is set at Rs 275,000.
  3. Engine Capacity 1500cc to 1999cc: Vehicles in this category will incur a tax of Rs 100,000.

Locally Manufactured or Assembled Vehicles:

1. Engine Capacity 2000cc and Above: For locally manufactured or assembled motor cars and jeeps with an engine capacity of 2000cc and above, the tax rate is Rs 50,000.

2. Engine Capacity 1500cc to 1999cc: For locally manufactured or assembled motor cars and jeeps with an engine capacity of 2000cc and above, the tax rate is Rs 25,000

Implications and Reactions

The change in tax rates is part of a larger plan to increase provincial revenue and boost local manufacturing. By setting much lower tax rates for locally made or assembled vehicles compared to imported ones, the Sindh government is clearly aiming to support the domestic automotive industry.

Car buyers and industry stakeholders have mixed reactions to these updates. While local manufacturers welcome the move as a boost to their sales and market share, consumers eyeing imported vehicles express concerns over the higher financial burden. This policy shift is anticipated to influence purchasing decisions, potentially driving up demand for locally produced cars.

Dealers and automobile experts suggest that the increased tax rates on imported vehicles could also have a ripple effect on the overall market, potentially leading to higher resale values for used cars within these categories. However, they caution that the full impact will only become clear as the market adjusts to the new rates.

Planning to sell your property in Pakistan? Before you proceed, make sure you have the 7E certificate. Introduced by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in 2022, this essential document is required for a seamless property transaction. Without it, you could face significant complications.

What is a 7E Certificate?

Think of it as a tax clearance certificate. Issued by the FBR, the 7E certificate confirms that you’ve settled all your tax obligations on immovable property (land and buildings) in Pakistan. In essence, it demonstrates that you’re a responsible property owner!

Who Needs a 7E Certificate?

This requirement applies to all property sellers, no matter the property’s value. Whether you’re selling a modest apartment for under 25 million rupees or a high-value estate, you’ll need the 7E certificate to prove to the Land Record Department that everything is in order.

The Trouble with Skipping the 7E Certificate

Here’s why you don’t want to mess around with the 7E certificate:

  • Sale on Hold: The Land Record Department won’t process the sale without it, leaving you in a frustrating limbo.
  • Unexpected Tax Bill: You might face additional tax based on the fair market value of your property, which could be a hefty sum you weren’t planning for.
  • Penalty Power: The FBR can slap you with penalties for not filing your tax returns on time.

Getting Your 7E Certificate: A Smooth Transaction

  1. Declare Your Property: Make sure your property is listed in your income tax return under the “Capital Assets” section. If you haven’t filed your return yet, do it ASAP! Luckily, you can revise a return filed within the next 60 days.
  2. Apply for the Certificate (if not declared earlier): Even if you haven’t declared the property or filed a return, you can still apply for the certificate.

Important Note:

Tax regulations can be tricky, and this information is meant as a general guide. To ensure you fully understand your specific situation and exemptions related to the 7E certificate and income tax filing, consulting with a qualified tax advisor in Pakistan is highly recommended.

Overall, the new mobile phone tax rates mark a significant development in Pakistan’s taxation policies. Their impact on consumer behavior and the economy will become clearer in the coming months.

Important Update: In the latest update from the FBR, you might be redirected to the IRIS page to check your NTN. If you are logged out of IRIS, you will find the same options as mentioned above. However, if you are logged in, NTN Inquiry and other online verification may not work for you.

NTN holders must file their annual income tax returns with the Federal Board of Revenue on time. For individuals, the deadline is September 30th every year. For companies, the deadline is either at the end of September or December, depending on the company’s financial year-end.

In Pakistan, there are three types of online NTN:

  1. Personal NTN: FBR issues this type of NTN on the CNIC of the person. You can check it through FBR’s online NTN verification system. FBR issues this to both salaried individuals and business individuals. Furthermore, after registering for NTN, the taxpayer may add Sole proprietor business in the FBR profile separately.
  2. Association of individuals (AOP) / Partnership: This kind of online NTN is provided to the affiliation of individuals. The affiliation of individuals is the partnership between partners of at least two. You can check it by online NTN Inquiry.
  3. Company’s NTN: This type of online NTN is issued to the company. You can check Company NTN on the FBR portal by entering Incorporation/Company Registration No issued by SECP at the time of company registration.

In conclusion, checking your NTN online using your CNIC is a simple and convenient process for taxpayers in Pakistan. The FBR’s online portal gives you all the details you need, making it easier to file your returns on time. Keep your NTN number and CNIC number safe to avoid any issues in the future.
